Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, a 20-plus-year CA, Embark seeks a Financial Planning and Analysis Accountant who will initially support the building of finance, modeling and analysis processes in the start up stage, and progress to ensure effective operations of the Finance department once Embark begins production, which is anticipated to be late 2019. The position is based in Toronto.
In this key role, you will:
Refine current financial model for updated investor needs and develop a draft budget
Prepare an annual budget (pre-fiscal year), moving toward a quarterly-updated rolling forecast which identifies risks/vulnerabilities/opportunities.
Facilitate quarterly refreshing of modelling scenarios and sensitivity analysis.
Report on ROI and progress on realizing strategy.
Supervise daily bank reconciliations when growth is accelerated.
Develop and maintain analytical models for reports reviewed by senior management.
Develop and manage KPI dashboards and variance analysis reporting.
Produce monthly and quarterly operating expense and capital reports that provide insights on key variances/ metrics.
Lead the rolling forecast process including providing updated projections for capital and operating expenses throughout the quarter, highlighting risks and opportunities.
Prepare presentation materials for senior management review.
Create a financial analytics dashboard utilized by the executive team.
Work to increase the depth and accuracy of P&L forecasting through development of robust sub-processes.
Support business decision-making through the provision of finance and commercial insight, challenging assumptions and preconceptions, and supported with relevant and effective analysis.
What we are looking for:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Canadian CPA designation required; CA preferred.
Minimum five years’ work experience, both in a public accounting firm and the private sector.
Experience working in a cannabis-analogous industry experience considered an asset.
Experience with building financial models.
Proven experience in establishing reporting and forecasting processes.
Budget tracking & management experience.
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
Strong financial modelling skill set (advanced Microsoft Excel skills, writing / modifying macros directly in VBA, creating standard reports and forecasting templates)Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
