As a key part of the Embark leadership team, and working closely with the COO and CEO, the Vice President, IT and Building Services will be a key lead in IT, Facilities, Physical and Logical Security and to support our planned rapid growth during the initial start-up stage of a new enterprise. Thereafter, the successful incumbent will provide effective leadership to ensure effective operations of IT and Building Services once Embark is fully operational, which is anticipated to be late 2019. The position can be based out of Toronto or Woodstock, Ontario.


Overall Responsibilities:

  • Lead and drive success for IT, Facilities, Physical and Logical Security, as well manage related projects through effective Project Management to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of change initiatives.Responsible to build and lead strong IT and Facilities departments

  • Collaborate with other Leaders to explore, implement and scale projects such as new product development, data warehousing and mining, new real estate development.

  • Work with business units and Finance to build overall IT/Development/Facilities plan - develop and manage budgets to deliver on strategy while balancing competing priorities.

  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Legal, Strategy and Commercial regarding change initiatives as well as day-to-day operations in areas of responsibility

  • On an ongoing basis, audit key business processes and recommend improvements.

  • Build and manage strong relationships and partnerships within the market.

IT Management & Logical Security:

  • Responsible for the implementation and operation a new Enterprise Resource Management system as well as other supporting technology. 

  • Lead the implementation of various office productivity solutions including ERP, MRP, QMS, WMS

  • Develop a Business Continuity Plan

  • Manage the development of IT security policy and procedure as well as compliance and reporting

  • Ensure all fire, health and life safety regulations are being followed.

    Work closely with Operations to ensure optimal, compliant systems and infrastructure.

Facilities and Physical Security:

  • Provides overall leadership to building and managing facilities and all related needs

  • Set and drive the team’s achievement of Facilities strategies.

  • Continually explore and implement process improvement measures.

  • Develop a scalable, proactive approach to optimize facilities’ operating costs and effectiveness. 

  • Work closely with Operations to ensure optimal, compliant facilities

Facilities and Physical Security:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in IT, Business or other related degrees

  • MBA preferred

  • 10+ years’ experience in a related senior level role in the food/beverage manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, or other highly regulated industries

  • Strong leadership experience in a multi-stakeholder complex environments

  • Proven experience leading and managing process optimization initiatives.

  • Experience opening new business units, including new manufacturing plants, processing facilities etc.

  • Strong vendor management experience

  • People leadership experience of teams of more than 10 people

  • Expertise in agile principles and practices

  • Experience in the design and implementation of a cloud based, real-time tech stack in a complex IT environment

  • Strong operations background and experience in planning strategic growth

  • Start up experience preferred

  • Strong project management and budgeting experience, and significant experience in developing and planning IT projects, negotiating agreements, and achieving outcomes expected within anticipated timeframes

  • Demonstrated the ability to solve conflict creatively with multiple stakeholders regarding conflicting demands for time and resources using ingenuity and flexibility.
